Yes, bring on the rain is a very typical blog name for a young lady from the rainy city. But truly, since I have moved to Hawaii, I have learned that there is so much more to rain than meets the eye.
There are those who have negative feelings toward the rain, there are times when I feel that way as well. The times when I decide to straighten my hair in the morning, the times I choose to walk instead of drive, and the times I listen to the weather man when he gives me (yet again) another improbable forecast.
However, to me, rain is therapeutic. It's a cleanse, a fresh start. The fragrance it gives the air after freshly coating the pavement--there is nothing quite like it. But what I love most about the rain is that it is so prevalent (metaphorically) to the themes of our lives.
You can see the rain in many lights. Your rain could be burdens, blessings, trials, talents, the possibilities are endless.
I like to think of my rain coming through blessings. My most important blessing is having the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life, something I have been blessed to have from the very beginning. I also have the worlds' best friends. Ask anyone, it's true. People had always told me their nightmare stories of friendships gone awry, and it occurred to me that the closeness I share with my friends is a rarity that I should, and will, always cherish. My family is very strange. There is not a time when we are not laughing or teasing each other. We all have our own quirky weirdness, it is most obvious when we are all together, but there is no greater bond than that of a family, and we have always and will always be close. They know me and accept me for who I am, imperfections and all! I could go on and on, but I am sure you get the idea.
There have also been times in my life where my rain has been in the form of trials. Constantly pouring and seeming to never end. This type of rain is much more influential than we realize. Though the trials I have gone through in my life have been unfortunate, they have helped me grow and improve myself in ways that I would have never dreamed possible. The most important aspect of this rainstorm that we must always focus on is the rainbow that forms after the skies clear.
So now you are wondering- why the intro? Why the blog? Why? Why? Why? Well the truthful answer is: I am not sure. I love to write, and due to my inability to find a job on the North Shore (its probably time to stop being so picky) I have some extra time on my hands--that is, when I am not at the beach, doing something recreational, or being romantic.
And to end with an entirely unrelated quote from this past General Conference (Dieter F. Uchtdorf):
"Life is a journey, not a race, enjoy the moment"
bring on the rain. xx
